General Note:: On May 25 and 26, 1999, Al Neuharth's traveling Newseum visited Centralia College. Creator of USA Today and CEO of first Gannett, then Freedom Forum (a nonprofit organization that operates and funds programs that improve the practice and understanding of a free press), started a museum for the news media in Arlington, Virginia called Newseum. Gordon Aadland, the college's public information officer and friend of Neuharth's, encouraged him to put part of the exhibit on wheels and bring it to the nation. It eventually visited cities in all 50 states, mostly in larger cities. Because of Aadland and Neuharth's friendship, Centralia College was privileged to host the exhibit. Along with interactive exhibits, the 2,000-square-foot museum contains artifacts such as a piece of the Berlin Wall, a keyboard signed by Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, a 19th-century typewriter and a press pass worn by Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee. Bradlee is the famed editor who worked with Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in uncovering the Watergate scandal
