After the IWW was driven from Centralia for the fourth time, Tom Lassiter, age 43, who had been blinded in an industrial accident, was the only public presence of the IWW on the streets of Centralia in 1919. He sold radical newspapers, was harrassed and kidnapped, and sought legal advice from Elmer Smith. No one was ever prosecuted for his kidnapping.
