- Instructor Penny Martindale and her students at Long Beach, Washington building a sand sculpture; students designed a dragon in the classroom and sculpted a dragon in the sand. Penny Martindale recalls that the funniest part of their day at the beach was when the tide came in under their van, burying it up to the axle; with the help of their shovels and a former truck driver in the group, they managed to get the van out.
